Hurricane Ike
Impact on sister congregations
By Malcolm Tyree | September 15, 2008

Over the weekend of September 12-14, Hurricane Ike moved through the heavily populated southeastern and eastern area of Texas. Millions of lives have been impacted by this storm and our prayers are with them.
Among the millions, partner congregations of Grace Point have been impacted by this storm. Their members had their homes damaged and some even destroyed by this storm. In an effort to practice and not just preach the Bible, we are rejoicing with those who rejoice and weeping with those who weep (Romans 12:15), by setting aside October 5 as a day to receive a special offering to assist those effected by the storm.
This offering will be sent on to the state-level network we partner with, The Texas General Assembly of the Church of God. Tim West and Robert Pettit will oversee the distribution of the funds. Some of the money will go toward the clean-up efforts, some may go to purchase groceries. Some will help individuals, and some will help congregations. Rest assured the money will be used wisely and effectively.

We will also look at conducting a mission trip to assist in the rebuilding of the area. A mission trip may be scheduled over Christmas or Spring Break. Hurricanes take months and years to recover from, so consider how you can be a part.
